Users and roles
Create and deactivate accounts, add members to projects and understand which role may do what.

The administrator manages accounts and rights in the Admin tab.
Roles
Mirador knows roles on two levels.
Global role of an account:
| Role | meaning |
|---|---|
| ADMIN | sees and may do everything in every project; creates projects and users, manages type schemas, licence and settings |
| EDITOR | a person who edits – relevant for counting licence seats |
| READER | a person who only reads |
Important: the global roles EDITOR and READER grant no rights in a project. Rights in a project come from the membership alone.
Project role (membership):
| Role | may, in addition to the previous one |
|---|---|
| READER | read; give verdicts as a reviewer; create private filters and views |
| EDITOR | create and change artifacts, relationships and comments; create baselines and reviews; share filters and views; synchronise |
| PROJECT_ADMIN | manage members; rename and delete baselines; set default views; sync points and sync plan; project variants; the project’s document templates |
Without a membership, a project is invisible to an account.
Accounts
In the Users section:
- Add user with username, password, display name and global role.
- Deactivate with the check box in the status column: a deactivated account can no longer sign in, and its sessions end at once.
- An account is a Person or a Machine – technical accounts for scripts and integrations count against their own licence seats.
- References are people known from Jira or Jama, for example as authors. They cannot sign in until Upgrade turns them into a login account.
- For technical accounts, the administrator also creates and revokes API tokens here.
Everyone changes their own password in their Profile. There is currently no way to reset another account’s password in the interface.
Members of a project
You add members in two ways:
- in the Users section on the account: Add to project…, choose a role, Grant;
- in the Projects section on the project: Add account….
Revoke membership takes the right away again. Project administrators see the Projects section too – for their own projects.
Licence seats
Which seat of the licence an account takes depends on role and kind:
| Seat | taken by |
|---|---|
| Full seats | people with the global role EDITOR or ADMIN, or with EDITOR or PROJECT_ADMIN in any project |
| Reader seats | people who only read everywhere |
| Technical accounts | accounts without a person behind them |
A reader may use a free full seat, not the other way round. If no seat is free, an account cannot sign in; the list shows it as “Blocked by license”. The oldest administrator is never locked out. See Licence.
